Triangular bullet Icon: New New Report - "Analysis of the Transition to Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles & the Potential Hydrogen Energy Infrastructure Requirements", March 2008.

Triangular bullet Icon: New OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Jan. 23, 2008 — A year-long nationwide highway test of six instrumented heavy trucks and 10 instrumented trailers hauling freight over three quarters of a million miles has moved into the data assessment phase.

The test led by Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Center for Transportation Analysis was conducted by Schrader Trucking Company of Jefferson City. The project has recorded 1,800 pieces of information per second from the truck operations and monitored 60 performance parameters, including speed, engine torque, fuel consumption, road grade and location. Initial analysis will assess the fuel efficiency advantages of Michelin's new generation single wide-based tires compared to conventional tandem tires. The funding source is DOE's Office of FreedomCAR and Vehicle Technologies.

Triangular bullet Award Winning Work - CTA's Dr. David Greene is one of the contributing authors to the Climate Change 2007 Mitigation Working Group III report produced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which was awarded the Nobel Prize.

Triangular bullet  New Report - "Integrated Analysis of Market Transformation Scenarios with HyTrans" This report presents alternative visions of the transition of light-duty vehicle transportation in the United States from petroleum to hydrogen power. It is a supporting document to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Summary Report, “Analysis of the Transition to a Hydrogen Economy and the Potential Hydrogen Infrastructure Requirements” (U.S. DOE, 2007). Three alternative early transition scenarios were analyzed using a market simulation model called HyTrans.

Triangular bullet  New Appointment - Patricia (Pat) Hu, Director of the Center for Transportation Analysis in the Engineering Science and Technology Division, has received a committee appointment from the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Executive Committee to serve on the Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Protection. The TRB is a division of the National Research Council, a private, nonprofit institution that provides expertise in science and technology to the government, the public, and the scientific and engineering communities.

New Report - Transportation Energy Data Book: Edition 26 was released May 29, 2007. Designed as a desk-top reference, the data book includes statistics and other information that characterize transportation activity and/or influence transportation energy use. The Transportation Energy Data Book: Edition 26 is available in pdf format and is also available in hardcopy. Visit the Transportation Energy Data Book Website.

Dr. David L Greene of the Center for Transportation Analysis was selected as the recipient of the SAE Barry D. McNutt Award for Excellence in Automotive Policy Analysis. This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of improved federal automotive policy. Government policy is an increasingly important and complex influence on the ability of the mobility community to serve humanity. Through this award, SAE recognizes the importance of sound policy analysis and inspires members of the mobility community in government, industry and elsewhere to strive for excellence.

The award was presented on May 15, 2007 during the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Government/Industry Meeting in Washington, DC.
